Safari Sosebee is a seasoned Art Director and Principal Artist with nearly 20 years of experience, recognized for blending his roots as a VFX lighter and generalist with deep expertise in virtual production and thoughtful leadership. His strengths include art direction, production planning, cinematic scene creation using Unreal Engine, and specialized knowledge in designing for in-camera visual effects. Safari is celebrated for crafting collaborative, beautifully compelling worlds, and translating complex VFX and real-time processes into accessible concepts for filmmakers.
Safari’s career took shape through influential collaborations, notably working with directors Joel and Ethan Coen on acclaimed films like A Serious Man and True Grit. These early projects instilled in him the value of meticulous visual planning, significantly influencing his approach to creative leadership.
He has notably advanced the field of virtual production through his role as Sr VAD Art Director on key Lucasfilm Art Department projects, including The Mandalorian (Seasons 2 & 3), Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka. Working closely with industry leaders like Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Greig Fraser, Safari helped host virtual location scout meetings, aligning teams and designing shots and virtual sets for in-Camera VFX, a process that has become new industry standard and redefined quality expectations in modern television production.
In addition to film and television, Safari applied his cinematic storytelling skills as Supervisor and Principal Creative for Fateless Games video-game cinematic, showcasing his versatility in adapting traditional film techniques into a fully animated media.
Safari’s leadership style is characterized by patience, and a commitment to inclusive collaboration. He actively mentors quieter voices within creative teams, advocating for thoughtful and intentional growth.
Looking ahead, Safari is dedicated to further exploring innovative storytelling techniques through transmedia projects and original intellectual property. By leveraging emerging technologies like AI and real-time rendering, he aims to expand creative possibilities and support crafting imagery for partners.
Outside of professional projects, Safari maintains his creativity and inspiration through personal interests in cinema, gaming, and outdoor activities like hiking. These passions fuel his ongoing exploration and provide balance in his life. Helping him consistently produce excellent work that resonates with partners.
